Chipolte Chilli Chocolate Flapjacks

Fiery Chilli Chocolate Flapjacks, Crumbly, Decadent, Naughty..

Its coming towards the end of National Baking Week plus I’m taking part in this month’s We Should Cocoa challenge where the theme was Chilli and Chocolate..

I love making flapjacks or any recipes using oats (probably because it’s semi healthy and you don’t feel too naughty!)

However, this recipe is not for those watching the waistline but craving something warm, crumbly, decadent and rich for these upcoming chill days and nights.

Chilli and Chocolate is a great combination of sweet, rich, warm flavours and chilli adds a fiery kick!

Top Tip: You can also crumble up the flapjacks to make a granola to top on cereal or yogurt..

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon honey
200g porridge oats

100g unsalted butter
100g brown sugar

50g chocolate broken up/in pieces
3/4 teaspoon of Chipolte chilli (or however spicy you want it!)

Baking Tray/Cake Tin- lined with greaseproof paper, would need a size suitable for the amount your making

Method:

1. Put the butter, sugar and honey in a saucepan and heat, stirring occasionally, until the butter and sugar is dissolved. Add the chilli, chocolate and oats and mix well.

2. Transfer to the tin and spread it out to 1 inch thick. Smooth the surface.

3. Bake in a preheated oven at Gas 4 for 25-30 minutes, or until crisp round the edges but still slightly soft in the middle.

3.Let cool in the tin, then turn out and cut into squares.

Happy Baking! x

Wonderful stuff. Love flapjacks and I like the way you’ve used honey instead of syrup – so gets extra healthy brownie points? Have never tried a chilli version of this, great idea. Thanks for participating.

  4. Corina says:

They look good. I love chocolate and chilli but haven’t tried the combination in flapjacks before.

  5. It was great, crunchy chocolate that adds a kick of chilli towards the end! I have a chilli chooclate block in my cupboard waiting for me to make hot chocolate with..
